Clownfish

Clown fish are some of the most popular marine aquarium fish today. They are almost the poster child for the hobby. They are also some of the best choices for new aquarium keepers because they eat well and are very hardy and resistance to changes in the tank. There are also captive grown clown fish on the market that are healthier and longer lived then wild caught specimens.

There are many species of clownfish and most are reef safe. The percula and ocellaris, in my opinion, are the most sedate and hardy. Both of these types will also take to anemone’s. The maroon clownfish is also another very popular choice for marine hobbyists. I don’t have much experience with these, but I know they do get pretty large in size and have beautiful color combination’s. From my experience, the tomato clownfish is much more territorial and aggressive, but very hardy and will take to an anemone’s quite easily.
