Refugium Installed!

So, I had been searching for a couple months now on a used refugium for my fish tanks and I finally came across a decent deal. I found a used CPR HOB (Hang on back) medium sized refugium (about 4.5 gallons) on ebay for $50 so I jumped on it.

It came with the pump and tubing and all I needed to get was a light. So, I had a $25 gift cert for pet supermarket and went to check and see if they might have what I was looking for. They didnt have single lights for sale, so I bought a small 1 gallon tank kit that came with a light, tank, and cheap pump. This actually worked out perfect because I needed a QT (quarantine) tank for sick/new/injured/mis-behaving fish or inverts.

The pictures I have are kind of hard to see because there is not much room behind the tank, but you can get the gist of it. I’m really happy with how it all turned out.

The refugium is doing ok so far, but I think I may need a stronger light or a different light schedule altogether. Algae is definitely growing inside, but It really has not slowed the spread of hair algae in my tank. However, I am still in the process of removing my bio-balls from my sump as well which could be messing with my nitrate levels causing more HA to grow. The only complaints I have on the system thus far is that it’s on the back and I don’t have easy access to see whats inside, and I don’t like seeing the small pump inside my actual tank. Otherwise it is doing its job.

I will get more pictures asap.
