Continuation of the post: Mangrove’s in the Reef Aquarium
Just a couple pictures showing the size of the mangroves since the last post where we looked at growth rates from December 3rd 2009 to February 17th 2010. These are the most recent pictures taken on 3/23/2010.
In the time since the last post, the grape culpera strand has grown more than 5x its original size. If any of you have ordered from reefcleaners.org, they offer a strand of grape culpera for $.01 to add on to any order – that is the size my piece started as (probably 2-3 inches long with just a straight stalk and no “leaves” forming). The chaeto has just about doubled in size as well.

As you can see, the mangroves have grown up to the bottom of my stand, and it is now time to trim them. I am under the impression that to trim a mangrove, you must cut it right above the first set of leaves on the stalk. I will test this on a few of my taller ones and see if the plant is able to recover and as always, I will post the results here.

Thought I had the wrong site at first.
haha! Yea, I had been seeing the template I used around a lot lately and figured it was time for a make-over. I’m still working on it and trying to figure out how to make it all flow properly so people can find what they need easily. Thanks for the support…I’ll be back to the 1 gallon DIY’s tomorrow. I have a nice youtube vid in the works for the battery powered ATO I have been talking about
