Long Nose Hawkfish

So its been a few days now and the fish is still alive and kicking. He has not eaten much in the way of pellets, but I have seen him pecking at the rocks in the tank. I know this species of fish eats worms so that must be what is sustaining him at the moment. I plan on making a quick stop at the live fish store to pick up some frozen shrimp to see if he will take to that.

He is one of the most interesting fish I have in the tank for sure. All of his movements are very precise and with a purpose. He will perch up on a rock and look around with his huge eyes surveying the situation and then take a few pecks at a rock and move on. If he notices me watching the tank, he will sit right on the sand in front of the tank watching me. This fish always seems to be on the hunt, which makes me uneasy.

Since I have added this creature to the tank, my Scarlett Cleaner shrimp has retreated to the back of the tank. I have seen the Hawk attack the cleaner, but i decided to see if it was just a first days setting up a territory type thing, but I’m starting to think differently now. On the other hand, this fish will just sit and let my blood shrimp clean him all day long.

I have also noticed him picking on my Rainsford goby and purple fire fish. I was surprised that he even messed with the purple fire fish because they are both very similar in size. I am hoping within the next couple days to a week that things will calm down, otherwise I may have to take this guy back to the store =(
