Ganzel’s Reef Tank – May 2010 – saltwater marine aquarium HD – 130 g. – 70 g. sump

Please thumbs up on stumble if you like this! Hi all, it’s been a while, but better late than never I guess ;) After battling montipora eating nudibranch for 2 months, I thought I had won the fight, only to discover that a calcium overdose had slowed them down. ( I had reached 1000 instead of 400-500 we are aiming for!) So when the calcium problem got solved (still killed a bunch of corals), the nudis got back stronger than ever and ate pretty much all the montis available. So here is the tank 8 months after a heartbreaking battle that I lost. I plan on adding new corals in july, so stay tuned. Started in february 2008, 6 ft, 130g display, 70g sump, 3x MH 400W 14 000 K Hamilton lights, 1x tunze 6080, 2x hydor koralia 4, 1x koralia 1, usa current 1/3 hp chiller, reeflo 200 skimmer, ph monitor, refractometer, cheato and caulerpa in sump+ 70 lbs live rock, fans, 1x 250 watt heater, 30g water reserve, 100 gpd RO/DI, Deltec H20 salt… SONG BY PHANTOGRAM : MOUTHFUL OF DIAMONDS Thanks for all the comments, until next video, Ganzel

@sdinh1985 if your red algae is “slimey” it could be cyano bacteria – do regular water changes and consider adding a phosphate remover to your system

Your tank is absolutely amazing. I have a 125 gal that I’m in the early stages with and I’d love to get where you are! Great job and pretty awesome video!

@tonytennis there are sites with flow calculators based on your aquarium size and content. just google it!

@319PurpleHaze fish tank is way easier. You just need to keep salinity levels, temperature, and make a water change once in a while… With corals comes chemistry and a ton of additives… It’s cheaper too… You can always add one or 2 resistant corals like GSP or ricordeas …

It is always sad to lose an animal you try so hard to provide for. I had a mandarin for about a year my self with the pods in there it finally wasted a bit. Do you add live brine shrimp to your tank? I have a 125 which just broke out with Aiptasia. What a pest. Piggy backed on a piece of live rock from another tank and it keeps coming back with a vengence. My butterfly died after a month. How do you care for yours?
