Anouncing New Tank Build: 20 gallon long

Due to a recent move, I have decided that its time for a new build. I’m planning a downgrade of my 37 gallon with 15 gallon sump to a 20 long all in one. The reason I decided to go this route is I’m in an appartment so space is a concern as well as regulations of the complex (nothing over 20 gallons). Because the 20 gallon long has the same exact footprint as the 37 gallon tall, I will be able to reuse my stand and hood. Another personal plus of this tank is that it is a minature version of my favorite tank, the 40 breeder. I really like the idea of being able to put my arm in the tank without getting my sleeves soaked due to 20″+ depth.

I am planning a ton of cool DIY’s for this including the AIO false wall with removable media rack, DIY fuge light, DIY ato setup, and I am tossing around the idea of a foam rock wall.

Also, my boss at work gave us all a budget for personalizing our desks and decorating the office. A few of the employees here want me to do a 65 gallon tank, but I’m not sure my boss is ready for that type of comitment. I may either bring my 37 gallon to the office, or ease them into reefing through a desktop pico tank. Since I will have a lot of left over rock, sand, some coral, and a few inhabitants, I should be able to set it up nice. I think it will be a speicies tank with just the purple reef lobster from the 37 gallon and some coral, no fish. He has become somewhat of a mence to my fish, so he needs his own space. I may also turn it into a small mangrove display as I will need a place to put my mangroves from the tear down of the 37 gallon. The tank will most likely be a 5.5 gallon aga or this really nice 2 gallon that I found at my local fish store with black silicone. Either way, it will be a DIY all in one aquarium.

I am really excited about this tank. I have already started the build and so far its coming very nicely.

However, I do have some bad news to report. My 1 gallon pico is no more. The Hydor Hydrotherm temperature controller malfunctioned and I came home to a tank over 95 degrees. 2 ricordia that I had melted and I lost a lot of polyps on the Zoa’s. However, I was able to transfer everything to the 37 for the time being…hopefully it will all pull through :(
