Angel Fish

Angel fish are some of the most beautifully colored in the saltwater aquarium hobby. They are also some of the most active and personable, but they also come with an expensive price tag. It is important to remember that like most other species of fish, some are not reef safe. These type of fish are also very delicate and will find it extremely difficult acclimatizing to a new environment. So it is important that you take extreme care when handling these fish.

Most types of pygmy or dwarf angels are considered reef safe such as the Flame Angel and Coral Beauty. These fish do a great job of picking small bits of algae off the live rock work. These fish are truly stunning and beautiful but they are also expensive and need to have good water quality to survive. They are best kept by themselves and will often fight with each other or similar fish in smaller tanks.

Most dwarf angels can live in tanks 30 gallons or more. They will eat regular food pellets or flakes as well as algae. Max size of these type of fish will be around 4 to 6 inches. Although they are claimed to be reef safe, it is important that you add any fish to your reef aquarium with caution and watch them carefully. Water parameters must be pretty good for these fish to survive as well.
