And so ends my algae and the scrubber chronicle. I will continue to post pictures on how the scrubber is doing, but there is no more algae in my tank. This thing really works and I will continue to use this as my only source of filtration on the tank
If anyone wants a scrubber like the one I have below, I can send the specs of what I used to make it, or make you one and ship it for a small price. I will post comparison picture from start to finish in a couple days when work permits. Thanks all for following along. And please, if you have questions, or just want to talk about some reef stuff, send them to my email: Jason@reefchronicle.com or instant message me on AIM: Jason@reefchronicle.com (im normally on from 9am-5pm.
here is what the tank looks like now…Time for coral =)

I have a 28 gallon bow style marine tank with live rock, yellow wrasse, 2 clown fish, and a leather tree coral with live rock and sand substrate. The tank is around 6 years old and I am losing the battle with the green hair algae in the tank, along with losing my coral. I have a Rena Filstar XP1 filtration system on the tank along with a Acqueon hang-on filter on the back of the tank. I do not have a sump on this tank.
Please let me know if your algae scrubber will work on my tank and if so please send me the instructions on how to build one along with what a completed scrubber from you would cost.
Thanks,
Glenn Gilbert
can you please send me thes specs on this thing.. it looks quite simple.
Thanks
Gerry
Hey Gerry,
A scrubber is quite simple to build with the right tools, the only thing you need to have perfect is the flow and lighting distance.
As for specs, there is really nothing to it. Its just a slit in a pipe with a pump attached and a drain back to the aquarium. The water leaves the bucket by gravity. I just used a garbage can, cut 2 holes for the cheap lights you can buy at home depot, then another 2 holes for the pipe to go across the top, and 1 more hole for the drain. All the fittings can be purchased at home depot as well. I used a mag 3 or 5 for the pump, but I cant remember for sure which it was (Im leaning more toward the 5 though).
For more information on the effectiveness, different builds, and stats/specs, I suggest you check out http://www.algaescrubber.net/forums/. They are very helpful and will give tips on your design.
